This book is very poor in terms of information. You can gather a lot more information by browsing various articles, or wikipedia. As a compensation, it’s full of pictures ( that would be photos, not drawings )- nice if you’re below 5 years of age and cannot read. Don’t waste your money on it.

I don’t know much about tires and was reading in this out of curiosity. Most of the information fits what I already knew. But there is a box on page 98 about beadlocks saying they are illegal for road use but not why. I Googled the question and it turns out they are not illegal – most are not DOT certified which means they can’t be used for commercial vehicles (which they are not intended for in the first place). It’s an urban legend with dealers being the ones spreading the bogus claims of illegality to hopefully reduce their liability in the event of an accident. This raises problems for judging the reliability of this book; it is possible that everything else in the book is accurate and factual; but how can I know that there aren’t other urban legends included as fact, I can’t look up everything, and there wouldn’t be any point in reading the book in the first place if I need to. |
