This stuffs not that great, December 28, 2003

I personally recieve a less irritating shave when I use my Norelco Advantage without the "goo". I think it (in combination with moisture) makes my skin tense, the razor is then more abrasive. So I dry shave then use a gel after-shave… but I understand not everyone’s skin is the same, so there will be people that love this stuff. No doubt it’s a high quality product, but it wasn’t meant for me.

The Nivea for Men shaving lotion works well for me. I have very sensitive skin that breaks out easily. With the Nivea, I don’t have the problem. I could not find this product anywhere besides Amazon so I was pleased to have found it.

I bought this epilator in preparation for my wedding–for which I have found myself doing all kinds of things I never bothered to do before. In terms of hair removal specifically, throughout my life I have tried shaving, plucking individual hairs (SOOO time-consuming), and waxing. This is the first time I’ve ever used an epilator, and I have to say, all things considered, I’m extremely pleased.

Being blonde, I have relatively light body hair, but I still find it quite irritating–especially in light of the fact that I will be spending the majority of the honeymoon in a bikini, and the idea of running back to the room to shave is not one that pleases me.

Probably the thing that most concerns people about the idea of an epilator is the potential for pain: I mean, what seems like a billion hairs at once will be simultaneously ripped out of your skin by the roots. Ouch. Considering, though, that that’s what happens with waxing anyway, I would say it…

I’ve never used one of these types of machines to remove hair, but I tried waxing and it is not for me, plus you have to wait until hair grows out about 1 cm before you can do it again, so that fact and the mess of it plus the ongoing expense just didn’t seem logical to me. Better to just get the expense over with in one shot, plus no mess (except for the stray hairs flying all over the place, not a big deal, better than gooey strips and messy hands any day).

I am kind of a nut, so I thought I would do my underarms. I am not a really hairy person in general but my underarms and my pubes are pretty bushy and I just wanted the hair gone without the 5 ‘o clock shadow for once and for all. The epilator includes an ice pack and a nice sleeve to put it in and I have to say that really helped with the numbing of the area. In fact I couldn’t imagine using this w/o it. Best. Thing. Ever., January 28, 2008

I hate shaving my legs and so I often feel gross because I’m… well… hairier than I’d like. I had an Epi-Lady back in the 80s and it was a torture device, I just remember it hurt so badly I never really used after the first failed attempt. Well this Braun Silk-epil Xelle is a whole different animal. Sure it stings a bit but its almost a good sting because I knew the first time would be the worst, and it will be all uphill from here. And it didnt hurt bad, really. This system provides a cooling glove and a whole beginner system to make it easy for beginners. I jumped right in and went for the full-on high speed settings, and it was fine. Its a great thing.

Remember when you first used an electric toothbrush? How you marveled that you could get the same clean teeth at home that you got at your dentist’s office? That’s how I feel after my first shave with my new Emjoi razor: it is completely different from, and utterly better than, any other 2- or 3- or 4-blade razor made by the big companies with the big ad budgets. No turning back, indeed. It was clear, from my first shave, that this razor was well worth the money. Comes with a handy carrying case and travel sleeve that fits over the blades, and with twelve cartridges. I’d never heard of this brand before seeing it well-reviewed on Amazon. I was looking for an electric razor, since I was so fed up with how soon my 3-blade cartridges wore out. Fortunately, Emjoi’s razor came up in my search. Emjoi can’t improve on this product, unless they make blades that could be resharpened or recycled and make the packaging less excessive. Great shave. Closer than anything else I’ve ever used (the Mach 3 seems to consistently miss some parts of my beard). This razor has a nice, solid feel in your hand. Can’t vouch for the durability of the blades yet but after 2 shaves, I’m happily surprised at how well it works.

Great Shave, December 13, 2005

This razor is definately worth purchasing.

The blades arent anymore expensive then the Mach 3 blades and last longer. Gives a nice close shave and drastically cuts down on the nicks and cuts.

This is by far, the worst blade I’ve ever used!!! I purchased this blade from a vendor in Atlanta. I was so excited because the 0A was the “in between” blade I was missing. Anyway, open the thing, sprayed it, attached it to my Oster Classic 76 Blades and that’s when all Hell Broke Loose! I’d never heard my husband scream,,,EVER! It pulled,cut and tore into his scalp!! It doesn’t glide across the scalp like other blades!I then took the blade and slid it accross the back of my hand and it cut my skin pretty bad! It wasn’t a smooth transition at all.

I know it’s the inn thing to have “ION” everything but some things just need to be left alone! Something about that “new” AgION blade. The so called “Modified” part of it should have never been added.

I’d buy the origianl 0A blade over this one any day! This review has nothing to do with the SELLER-

JUST THE NEW AgION MODIFIED BLADES !!

Needs electronics savy, July 9, 2008

I would definitely discourage the average person from attempting a battery pack change at all. If you have a mechanical knack, some electronics experience and access to a tiny soldering pencil (3/32″ 700 or 800 degree tip), it is doable. On my Norelco 6885XL, my steps were: 1) Let the shaver run to discharge the old battery pack. 2) Remove 2 screws holding the two halves together and take the two halves apart. 3) Use needle-nosed pliers to slightly bend each side of the spring clips inward, then up. 4) After you get the two spring clips off, use electronics side cutters to cut the leads of the bad battery pack about 3/16″ above the plastic cradle and remove the bad battery pack. Do not attempt to de-solder the bad battery pack’s leads from the printed circuit board. That takes a lot of expertise and special equipment and if you don’t know what you’re doing, you’ll ruin the PC board. 5) Bend the leads of the new battery pack into a `V’ shape so that when the new battery pack is…

Replace Without Soldering — Not Too Difficult, February 20, 2010

I agree with others who said do NOT attempt to solder: it’s not necessary, and would require the right tools and some decent experience to do successfully.

The no-solder approach described by others worked for me. Here’s a slightly edited version of someone else’s instructions that took me less than 10 minutes:

1) Let the shaver run to discharge the old battery pack.

2) Remove 2 screws holding shaver case halves together; separate halves.

3) Remove the two spring-clips: using needle-nosed pliers, slightly bend each side of the spring clips inward (or outward, depending on model) to disengage, then lift to remove.

4) One end of the battery pack has two flat metal leads that pass thru the plastic cradle, thru the printed-circuit board and are soldered to the underside of the P-C board. Using small electronics side-cutters, cut these leads as close to the batteries as possible and remove the battery pack. The idea is to leave as much of…

Norelco replacement battery, January 9, 2007

Purchased this replacement battery from Shaver World via Amazon. Delivery was prompt. When I could not figure out how to get the original battery out of the shaver I called the vendor. He went out of his way to give me specific instructions for removing the old and installing the new battery. This involved some non-intuitve techniques and I appreciated the help they provided. Not all internet sellers are willing to be that helpful.
